Panther inspires author

THE sighting of a black panther in Maesybont is the inspirationbehind a new book.

Panthora has been written by Royston Powell and Rhiannon Taylor,of Llanelli, in Welsh and English.

"I used to be a door-to-door salesman," said Royston.

"Around 20 years ago I was visiting a farm in Maesybont. A womancame to the door and grabbed me and pulled me inside. We looked outthe window and saw a black panther carrying a chicken in its mouth."

Rhiannon and Royston had previously worked together and aftertalking about this topic developed the story and co-wrote it.

"The story itself is original," said Rhiannon, who now lives inAberystwyth.

"We did a lot of work over the internet and exchanged ideas whichwe mainly agreed on."

The book took almost a year to complete with illustrations byLlanelli artist, Derek Dennis. It will be available in Welshbookshops including Siop y Ddraig, Llanelli, at Pounds 6.50, with50p to Cancer Research.
