BMW recruits former M-B designer; New head of luxury carmaker's US studio is a German native.(News)(Brief Article)

BMW has hired a former Mercedes-Benz designer to head its US design studio in California.

Verena Kloos will become president of DesignworksUSA on September 1. She replaces Adrian van Hooydonk.

Van Hooydonk, a Dutch native, will move to Munich to direct the BMW brand design studio.

He was responsible for the controversial design of the 7 series as well as the new 6-series convertible and coupe.

Kloos, 43, headed Daimler-Chrysler's advanced design studio in Como, Italy. There, she was responsible for advanced interior concepts for Mercedes-Benz cars.
