AboveNet Appoints Rusty Walther as Vice President of Client Services.

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 14, 1999--

AboveNet Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: ABOV), the leading architect of a global one-hop network that brings together high-bandwidth content sites and ISPs in a centralized co-location facility, today announced that Rusty Walther has joined the AboveNet management team as vice president of client services.

In this newly created position, Walther will lead AboveNet's worldwide service and support organization, and he will establish a benchmark environment that provides customers with a single point of contact for receiving smooth, efficient service for all of their needs.

Walther joins AboveNet from Nortel Networks where he was director of strategy, planning and programs for Global Services and Support. He brings many years of field and headquarters customer service management experience to AboveNet from such companies as Bay Networks, PeopleSoft, 3Com Corporation, and from the U.S. government. In addition, he is on the Board of Advisors of the Information Technology Services Marketing Association (ITSMA). Walther is frequently asked to speak at service and support professional events, and he is an active member of the Service and Support Professionals Association (SSPA).
